For a long period of time the retractable dock shelter has dominated the dock shelter marketplace. It’s versatility, effective seal and competitive price have made the retractable dock shelter very difficult to compete with and for many years it would satisfy audits as an appropriate loading bay covering.

As food hygiene and pest control standards around the loading bay improve and auditors look at a sign of daylight as an opportunity for pest ingress, the retractable dock shelter is no longer meeting the needs of the masses as it once was. This has forced many a food company, cold store and abattoir to look into ways of creating a more improved seal from theirdock shelter and the obvious option is the inflatable dock shelter.

Whilst the inflatable dock shelter will provide a better seal, it comes at a higher purchase cost and the retractable dock shelter with its durable cantilever frame design is also cheaper to maintain. Whilst the corner quadrants have been effective in improving the seal of the retractable dock shelter it can still full foul of an audit particularly for food companies or in temperature-controlled environments where a loss of energy maybe measured and daylight may still be observed.

As a solution, the loading bay cushion seal can be installed within the retractable dock shelter to ensure there is a tight seal against the vehicle and the retractable dock shelter then offers additional protection from the elements and pest infiltration. This double seal is extremely effective for a dedicated fleet of vehicles where the cushion sale can meet those particular needs. This means that for a company looking to upgrade their retractable dock shelter or on the premises that has retractable dock shelter and is facing the change of use, they can improve their seal without replacing all of the retractable dock shelters with inflatable dock shelter, saving a large expense.
